Maryna Nekrasova

Maryna Nekrasova is a PhD student and Tomlinson Scholar in Philosophy at McGill University working on issues related to AI in epistemology and social epistemology. In her dissertation, she is developing a new causal epistemic framework and examining how its conditions for knowledge apply differently to human and AI systems. Her current work with GRIN focuses on the philosophy of expertise—specifically, what constitutes expertise and how experts shape the production and dissemination of knowledge in both public and private contexts. She explores the epistemic roles played by AI experts and investigates the epistemic vices to which they are most susceptible, particularly within industry, academic institutions, and popular scholarship.

As well, she previously worked as an embedded philosopher on a national project led by the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in Toronto, where she researched how principles of health justice can be operationalized in machine learning tools used in mental healthcare.
